The riddim itself was created by Craig 'Leftside' Parks and the tunes on the albums were produced by Cordel 'Scatta' Burrell. The riddim was revived in 2008 as the Self Defense Riddim.

The Coolie Dance Riddim was created in 2003 by Cordel 'Scatta' Burrell and his brother Everton 'Eva' Burrell. It was released as the 45th album in the Greensleeves Rhythm Album series. In 2004 another album was released as the 60th album in the Riddim Driven series, this time as the Coolie Skank Riddim (even though the riddim is exactly the same).
